Ensenada

Ensenada, a few hours south of the US border, is the town that American tourists drive to (after seeing  Tijuana) if they are feeling'adventurous'; or if they want to buy some 'genuine' Mexican craft.  The US dollar is readily accepted and the town revolves around catering for tourists.  The streets house many interesting shops with lovely art which although more expensive than Oaxaca is not too bad.

Advice : If you are travelling in the US and want a short day trip Ensenda would be preferable to Tijuana.

The main problem with Ensenada is the police corruption.  Unfortunately I am unable to divulge the story of our final night in Mexico but basically it ended with two of our travelling friends being jailed for the night for drunkenness in a Police sting which is apparently quite common.

Advice : don't get drunk in Ensenda because you will end up paying $250US to get out of trouble!!
