Guanajuato City, was formerly Mexico's predominant Silver mining town.  It produced 80% of the world's silver.  The silver profits once generated constituted the financial backing for Mexico's successful attempt at independence.

Silver mining no longer dictates the town.  The mining shafts have since been converted into underground roads.  There are more underground road systems than above ground in this busy little town.  It is probably one of the hardest places to find a car park, and is definitely the easiest town to get lost in.

Colourful hillside units in Guanajuato

Be careful when wandering around, its extremely easy to loose your way.

The town also hosts a mummy museum which is apparently quite interesting.
