The buildings of Mexico City

Mexico City

Mexico City is the largest city in the world.  Despite its large size and its 16 million slums the centre of Mexico City is actually very clean, and the architecture matches that of European cities.

During the 1985 earthquake  many of the historical buildings in the city were severely damaged.  Unfortunately due to a lack of funds, and possibly a lack of government interest, many structures have not been repaired. Many buildings thus simply appear to be condemned.

Numerous main streets which were four lane (ie. two lanes in each direction separated by an island in between) have been converted into one way streets. In a city of 22 million such changes have chaotic effects on traffic flow.
