This is page one of two for Patzcuaro.
Patzcuaro (in the state of Michoacan de Ocampo) is located approximately halfway between Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta (which is on the West coast of Mexico).  It  is the wood carving heart of Mexico.  The majority of the wooden masks and furniture sold in Mexico is made in Patzcuaro.  We visited a couple of wooden furniture stores, but unfortunately a strict rule had been applied to our Mexican purchases :  'NO FURNITURE ALLOWED'.  There were some great carved bed heads, closets and chairs available.  If only we weren't bound by excess baggage restrictions.

Pictured above are the Trek tents.  They are not as much fun as hammocks however.  We spent as many nights as possible in our hammocks, even when it was freezing cold and/or raining.

The woodwork of Patzcuaro

One of the more unusual items we discovered were the milkshake mixers pictured above.  The individuals components of the mixer each spin individually as you rub the handle quickly between your hands (for Australian readers : as if trying to start a fire with two sticks).  

It was cold that night, you can see the frost on the ground (above).
