This is page one of two for San Miguel.
San Miguel
(San Migel de Allende) is an architectural dream in the midst of a barren wasteland (desert).  The quaint town has become host to many retired American couples and it's population consists of a great number of artists (the air is apparently very suitable for painting).

The town is well known in the US, and is a popular spot for tourists.   Many top of the range Mexican crafts can be bought there.  (However, for young students, the Oaxacan markets are certainly better value.)  The stores range in attractions from expensive art to old second hand furnishings displayed in stores that resemble garage sales.

Many of the buildings are painted in different vibrant colours.  They are very eye catching.

A piece of advice : if you are in a foreign country and cant speak the local language, ensure that you know the name of your hotel/camp site.  This will save having to make 3 attempts to return by taxi, and save having to explain to non-English speaking Mexican taxi drivers what a camp site is. (Note : we are not speaking from personal experience on this point).
