Inside Teotihuacan, Mexico City, Mexico

This is page one of two for Teotihuacan.
Teotihuacan
, the largest of the Mexican ruin sites that we visited is located approximately one hour outside Mexico City.

The site is about 2 miles in length, and is most famous for its 2 large pyramids i.e. the Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon.  The significance of the number nine is very apparent in the complex.  The height, width number of stairs and buildings when added always equal nine.  Nine of course represents the nine levels of the underworld.

One noticeable attribute of this site were the features of the Temple of Quetzalcoatl.  These large 3D carvings were quite impressive.  Pictured above is a serpent head surrounded by symbols representing the splashing of water as feather garlands.

Pyramid of the Sun

The Pyramid of the Sun, the world's 3rd largest pyramid stands 60m high with a 200m base.  It took over 200 years to build.  Even though the biggest on our tour, it certainly wasn't the hardest to climb.  The stairs were not built for giants and are actually wide enough to walk on normally.

Pictured above and below is the avenue of the dead, which is the road that joins the two ends of the complex.
